On Keeping Chickens (2017) Naomi Shihab Nye. 6 ½ by 8 ½ inches. This poem about keeping chickens was written by the celebrated poet from San Antonio specifically for Donna to use for this book. Watercolors of chickens, painted by Donna, fill pages... along with a handwritten text.
This book has 10 accordion folded pages. All the paper was hand made by Peter Thomas and was stitched together with red thread to create the accordion. The text was hand written in a free form calligraphic face, directly on the ivory colored accordion paper, by Donna Thomas. The full leather binding is made using red and yellow Moroccan leather. The book is housed in a clamshell box made using red colored book cloth. The front cover has atitle panel.
