This one-of-a-kind accordion book was made by Peter and Donna Thomas in the winter/spring of 2024. This is a Koch Harmonica (which is what the company called their accordions), made between 1903 and 1929 (when the com- pany was bought by Hohner). It was unrepairable, so we preserved it as this book. The text was written by Peter Thomas. The images and text were printed on Peter’s handmade paper and then hand colored by Donna Thomas. This real accordion book is one of a series of artists’ books we have made inspired by the visual pun. The series is held together by common structure, text and image, with a growing collection of pictures that rotate thru the series, old friends reappearing and new accordion players making first time appearances. The text varies, sometimes it has been biographical or autobiographical, other times literary, and often explorations into the history of accordions and accordion books as you will find here in The Koch Real Accordion Book.
