Santa Cruz Bioneers
December 2003 meeting notes

Santa Cruz Bioneers 2nd Gathering was held on Sunday, December 7th, 2:00 PM. Six new people came to this meeting, plus six people who had attended the November meeting.  There was also a MoveOn event happening this afternoon, screening the film “UNCOVERED” at several places in the area.  Michelle tried to contact local house-party hosts, so we might get some new people for next time.

After introductions, we briefly reviewed ideas from the last brainstorm.  These fell into a few key categories:

  1. Projects for this Year (by October/November 04)
    1. preparing for Beaming Bioneers & outreach to local groups(by next October)!
      1. Beaming Bioneers would require a diverse group of people coming together, forming a network of people and organizations that can positively impact the community.
  2. Outreach – Build Bridges & Develop Network (become network hub)
    1. The network we form through outreach for this is what will make both short-term goals and the long term goals/visions more likely to succeed
  3. Education
    1. Could be logical outgrowth of Outreach and Network development
  4. Long term goals/visions
    1. Catalyzing culture change

The Monday night conversation group had agreed that the project with most potential for us to accomplish is Beaming Bioneers, using that to catalyze outreach & network development (& education as much as feasible). Creating the network & preparing for a local Bioneers conference will likely require 20-30 people, willing to remain involved, working for the next nine months to make this happen

We then had a brainstorming session about Beaming Bioneers & Networking, coming up with a starter list of “Who do we want to bring into the network?”

We grouped these into different types of organizations, and got the following lists:

We then discussed plans for the next full-group meeting.  Judy and Carol agreed to facilitate the next meeting on January 18th, 2004 (2:00, Library meeting room).

Small group meetings were put on-hold until the new year (the Monday group is now planning to meet on January 12th).
