Join us for a reading of favorite poems by a diverse selection of members of our community.
Following the guidelines from former US Poet Laureate Robert Pinsky, each reader
will have 5 minutes to read a favorite poem and talk about its significance for them. Our readers will include:
Wallace Baine is an award-winning columnist, reporter and critic for the Santa Cruz Sentinel, and can be found on KPIG radio and his website wallacebaine.com.
Crystal Birns works at the Santa Cruz City Parks and Recreation Department.
Aeon Brady currently studies theater at UCSC and works for the departments scene shop, after graduation he hopes to continue acting and eventually make a career of it.
Susan Coale is an oceanographer and a lover of horses, four legged and sea.
Ann Creely works at UCSC as a financial analyst and just returned to California two years ago after a living for almost a decade in New England.
A local DJ at KUSP, Maiya Evans is a lover of the arts and a poetry enthusiast.
Laurie Brooks Flores is the Director of the William James Association Prison Art Project.
Ken Foster is a Santa Cruz native, the owner of Terra Nova Ecological Landscaping and a Kenneth Patchen enthusiast
Traci Hukill (pronounced Hyoo-kul) is the Editor of Metro Santa Cruz.
James Lafferty is the publisher of Clocktower Arts magazine.
Jill Wolfson is a journalist and novelist.
A Capitola Book Café employee.
The Favorite Poem Project was created by Robert Pinsky in 1977, soon after he was
appointed as poet Laureate by the Library of Congress. The project is dedicated to celebrating, documenting and promoting
poetrys role in Americans lives. It has resulted in nearly 1000 Favorite Poem readings across the country, bringing
together people from diverse backgrounds to share their favorite poems and talk about their relationship with the poems.
Poetry Santa Cruz is funded, in part, by a grant from
the Cultural Council of Santa Cruz County.
Poetry Santa Cruz is also sponsored by
