Poet Maude Meehan died in her sleep August 18. She was 86 years old and referred to herself as
the geriatric diva. Through her warm and vigorous presence, expressed in her friendships and workshops
and poems, she was a matriarch in the finest sensea mentor to many. She was the author of four
collections of poems: As If the World Made Sense (Many Names Press, 2003), Washing the Stones
(Papier Mache Press, 1996), Before the Snow (Moving Parts Press, 1991) and Chipping Bone
(Embers Press, 1985). Poetry Santa Cruz presented Maude with an award for her contribution
to our poetry community at our All Poets Day Celebration on January 24, 2003.
