Definition: A test using sound waves to obtain images of the tissues and organs of the pelvis, usually used to detect cysts, masses, tumors and other abnormalities, as well as early pregnancies. During the test, the sound waves come from a wand inserted into the vagina, and the images viewed on a screen and recorded.
