Definition:
In the UK and some other countries, LLETZ is synonymous with LEEP. In the US,
it is sometimes used to mean a subtype of LEEP. Whereas LEEP can be used for any
part of the cervix, including all or part of the transformation zone, LLETZ in
some areas is confined only to a LEEP which purposefully takes all of the transformation
zone and most of the surface of the endocervical canal. This type of LEEP can
be an alternative to a cone biopsy.
