Definition: A smooth, fibrous, benign tumor arising in the muscle of the uterus. This condition is very common, often asymptomatic, and tends to run in families. It usually disappears with menopause. Common symptoms of fibroid tumors are excessive bleeding during periods, painful periods, pain with intercourse, urgency to urinate/frequent urination, and lower back pain.
