Definition: A general term that means "too many cells". The significance varies depending upon where in the body and its causes. In the female reproductive system, the two main types are endometrial hyperplasia and squamous cell hyperplasia in the vulva. These conditions are not cancerous, although some types of endometrial hyperplasia are precancerous.
