| Q&A of the Week: HPV and Blood Donation | |
Christine asks:With the recent attacks in NY and DC, I would really like to give blood, especially since I am a universal donor. However, 4 months ago I found out I have HPV. Can you still donate blood if you have HPV? I've been looking online and cant seem to find an answer.
Good news, Christine. HPV
is not a blood-borne illness (they are different from viruses like HIV and hepatitis
in this way). HPV should not keep you from donating blood. Good for you for
getting out and doing something to help in this terrible time.
