Laser Ablation (Vaporization)
Dysplasia Evaluation and Treatment

A laser (very narrow beam of light) is used to destroy the dysplastic tissue - literally, the tissue is turned into vapor. In addition to being very precise, the laser treatment has the advantage of (usually) sealing off blood vessels at the time time, and there is much less bleeding and discharge after this treatment than the other treatments for dysplasia, and less scarring as well.

Laser ablation should not be confused with laser conization. The latter is when the laser is used to perform a cone biopsy - during this procedure the tissue is not destroyed, but preserved for analysis in the laboratory.
