Definition: a malignant tumor occuring in epithelial tissues - that is, the linings and overings of the body such as skin, mucous membranes, and the surfaces of organs and ducts.

Pronunciation: kar-sin-OH-ma • (noun)

Also Known As: cancer, malignancy, tumor. There are many types of carcinomas, depending on the tissue involved.

Examples: squamous cell carcinoma; adenocarcinoma

Common Misspellings: carsinoma
