Definition: An abnormal mass or growth that arises from normal tissue. Tumors can be benign (not cancer) or malignant (cancer).

Pronunciation: TOO mur • (noun)

Also Known As: neoplasm, growth

Examples: Uterine fibroids (benign); ovarian, uterine, cervical, etc, cancers. Most cancers are tumors (one exception is leukemia), but most tumors are not cancer. Benign tumors can cause problems by pressing on other structures.

Common Misspellings: toomur, tumur
