Definition: A result on a Pap test, AGUS stands for Atypical Glandular Cells of Undetermined Significance. This result usually is caused by factors unrelated to cancer, including infection and irritation which the the body can take care of with no intervention. However, since it can also be a precancerous change or even occasionally cancer, the next step to this kind of Pap result is usually a colposcopic examination and biopsy.

Common Misspellings: Must be differentiated from ASCUS, which is a different Pap result.
